Frequently Asked Questions

How do you operate with regards to COVID-19?

At Eugene Skin Divers Supply your health and safety is our top priority -- after all, we want you to be able to dive safely! As such, we take all necessary precautions, including maintaining 6 feet of distance, wearing a mask at all times (except in the water), and sanitizing equipment after each use. At the start of your course, we will check out to you all of the equipment you will need for the swimming pool sessions. This will ensure you are the only one using your gear and there is no cross contamination.

What if I want to do my Open Water checkout dives on vacation?

No problem. We call that an “Open Water Referral.” To complete a referral, you simply complete your eLearning and Confined Water sessions with us. When you’re done, we’ll issue you a PADI Referral Form and help make the arrangements so that you can complete your certification at a PADI facility at your resort destination.

Do you offer private Open Water courses?

Absolutely. To book a private class, simply let us know when you contact us about our course options. Everything else works the same.

Do I need to buy all the SCUBA diving gear before I start my certification course?

No. The only gear you will need to purchase is gear personal to you - a mask, fins, snorkel, boots and surface marker buoy (SMB). We have discounted packages at the dive shop if you are taking a course with us, so be sure to let us know that you are a student diver. All other gear you will need to complete the course and get certified will be furnished to you as part of the overall fee for the course -- no extra charges!

How do I continue learning once I’ve completed my Open Water certification?

We offer a range of options for continuing your scuba diving education. We recommend taking the Advanced Open Water Diver course as an immediate next step. Don’t let the name mislead you! You can take this course right after your Open Water certification. After Advanced Open Water Diver we recommend the PADI Rescue Diver course.

Can I learn more about SCUBA diving?

We also offer a host of other certification specialties and dive opportunities designed to help you improve or build on specific skills, including (but not limited to) Altitude Diver, Search and Recovery, Underwater Navigator, Deep Diver, Drysuit Diver, Enriched Air Nitrox, Fish ID, Peak Performance Buoyancy, and more.

Who is PADI?

Eugene Skin Divers Supply has long been associated with the Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI). As the largest scuba diver training organization in the world, with a PADI certification you’re not only getting access to a tried-and-tested curriculum and instructors who have been through rigorous training, you’re getting the equivalent of a globally-recognized driver’s license for diving.

Become A Dive PRO

You know the saying, “If you love what you do you’ll never work a day in your life”? If you adore diving, going pro might seem like a far fetched dream, but it may be more attainable than you think.

Would you prefer working at a resort in a tropical location?

Or prefer working locally in your own city or town?

Do you want to help people in water emergencies?

How about working in the entertainment industry?

Do you want to dedicate your time to saving our precious underwater environments?

No matter what your interest, there are numerous jobs around the world that need well-trained PADI Professionals. Once you go pro, you’ll enjoy many career opportunities.

If you’re new to the sport, you might wonder how someone turns their love of diving into a career. Getting the proper training is crucial and choosing the right instructor is key. A recreational diver will take diver level PADI dive courses and then move on to PADI professional courses.

The PADI Divemaster course is the first step in going pro and becoming a PADI Professional. The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor course is where you learn about teaching people how to dive and start to see how you can transform people’s lives through scuba diving. As part of your PADI Instructor training you will also become an Emergency First Response Instructor. Once you become a PADI Specialty Instructor you will be able to provide your students with in-depth information about certain dive disciplines like wreck diving or coral preservation.

The PADI Master Scuba Diver Trainer rating denotes a very high commitment to the PADI System of diver training. As a PADI IDC Staff Instructor you can independently teach and certify PADI Assistant Instructors at PADI Five Star Dive Centers or PADI Five Star Dive Resorts and assist PADI Course Directors with the PADI Instructor Development Course (IDC).

Next you’ll pursue the prestigious PADI Master Instructor certification, followed by PADI Course Director, the pinnacle of PADI Professional training which allows you to teach PADI instructor level courses.

If you love a challenge and would like to take your teaching to different levels, the PADI TecRec or PADI Rebreather instructor courses might be the right path for you.

Going PRO takes dedication, but there are many options to fit your schedule. Some knowledge development sections are available online through PADI eLearning®, before you complete the remainder of your course with your PADI Professional. You can also choose to train full-time or part-time to fit in with your schedule.

Imagine waking up excited to go to work each day. More divers seek PADI Professional credentials than any other professional scuba training organization. If you’re thinking about going PRO, contact us today and one of our Course Directors will be happy to provide you with all the information you need or just simply answer any questions you may have.

Take the plunge and become a PADI PRO!

To goPRO,

Project AWARE

Eugene Skin Divers Supply supports Project AWARE® as our ecology partner. Project AWARE® is a global movement for ocean protection powered by a community of adventurers. They connect the passion for ocean adventure with the purpose of marine conservation.

We are doing our part to create both local and global change for the ocean and the communities who depend on it. Our local actions collectively protect the most vulnerable marine species and decrease pollution. We work together for a clean, healthy ocean – and we have fun doing it! We support the AWARE® mission and believe in a future where the oceans no longer need protecting.

Marine Debris

Marine debris is a real problem. It is not only unsightly, it’s dangerous to sea life, hazardous to human health, and costly to our economies. Marine animals become entangled in debris, and even mistake it for food - often with fatal results. Divers, swimmers and beach goers can be directly harmed by encounters with marine debris or its toxins. The environmental damage caused by plastic debris alone is estimated at US$13 billion a year.

With a deep love and appreciation of our underwater world, our collective goal is to work within our dive community, along with dive leaders and ocean advocates, to become stewards for our ocean planet and secure real and direct environmental victories. With Project AWARE®, our adventures above and below water, fins on and off, allow us to see what others often don’t - bringing to the surface what’s beneath the waves. We experience first-hand how quickly overfishing and pollution can alter underwater life, irreversibly damaging ecosystems that are critical to marine health. Project AWARE® works to reduce underwater impacts of marine debris and prevent trash from entering the ocean in the first place.

Dive Against Debris

But global change is also empowered by grassroots action. That’s why we are trying to do our part by supporting Dive Against Debris®, the first and only marine debris survey of its kind focused on scuba divers reporting types and quantities of debris found on the ocean floor. By using and sharing the data reported by Dive Against Debris® volunteers, online and through our partnerships, we're helping bridge the gap in knowledge and build convincing arguments to lead to change.

If you’re a certified diver, you can collect and report important data. Through Project AWARE’s Dive Against Debris®, you can help remove marine debris on your dive and report the results. Together we make the ocean safer for marine life, and more importantly, the information you report helps inform policy change. With your help, Project AWARE® can use the information you report through Dive Against Debris® to convince individuals, governments and businesses to act against marine debris.

Dive Against Debris Specialists

Eugene Skin Divers Supply also certifies divers as Dive Against Debris® specialists. Students gain the knowledge and skills to activate their inner citizen scientist by taking the Dive Against Debris® Specialty. They l learn to complete Dive Against Debris® surveys under the guidance of a PADI® Professional and help keep our our local dive sites healthier by removing trash.

If you're a PADI (Junior) Open Water Diver who is at least 12 years old, you can enroll in the Dive Against Debris Specialty course.

Training starts in the classroom by learning:

  • - About marine debris, the damage done, what it is, where it comes from and how divers are part of the solution.
  • - How to establish a Dive Against Debris® survey, the survey frequency, sites, profiles and equipment.
Also the use of photography and knowing what to leave behind.
  • - How to make your survey count. The five easy steps to report the debris you've removed to maximize each survey's benefits.
How to join the global Project AWARE movement of scuba divers protecting our ocean planet.
  • - During the one required open water dive, students conduct a Dive Against Debris® survey, including weighing, sorting, recording, disposing and reporting your marine debris to Project AWARE.

Adopt a Dive Site

We have taken our commitment to the fight against ocean trash to the next level through Adopt a Dive Site®. As an Adopt a Dive Site Dive Center we regularly organize and document repeated marine debris surveys to help improve the health of aquatic ecosystems, but more importantly, we are providing valuable, much-needed information about marine debris to help inform policy change.

Protect what you love and join citizens scientists everywhere. Join a dive or get certified and lead a Dive Against Debris® survey every time you dive! Be part of the solution and make #EveryDiveaSurveyDive!

Solomon Islands 2023

June 20th thru 30th

This amazing journey gives you the very best of the Solomon Islands diving in a 10 day trip. You will experience the Florida Islands, Russell Islands, Mary Island and the incredible Marovo Lagoon.

We will begin our expedition with a westward cruise out of Honiara. One of our first stops in the Russells’ will include the Iconic Leru Cut and Mirror Pond. Known for some of the world’s most biodiverse and healthy reefs, Marovo offers diving amongst coral gardens and along beautiful sheer walls. We loop back to Mary Island (properly known as Mborokua) which is notable for an underwater point that commonly hosts schools of barracuda and jacks. Occasionally divers are lucky enough to hear the rumblings of Kavachi, the underwater volcano nearby.

We may spend a bit more time at the Russell Islands before we finish our adventure in the Florida Islands with an exploration of Mbike and Sand Fly Passage. The currents here mean manta ray sightings are possible. Tulagi, the main port, is also historically significant as a WWII base and offers diving amongst war era wrecks and artifacts. Galapagos 2022

December 5th thru 16th

Eugene Skin Divers and Blue Green Expeditions are headed to one of the most enchanting places on earth - The Galapagos Islands. These famous remote islands off the coast of Ecuador are nature’s evolutionary laboratory and perfectly situated in the ocean currents to create a diverse ecosystem like no other. The archipelago contains more distinct species of flora and fauna than in any other place on earth!

We have designed a custom itinerary with longer segments to maximize our time in each location. This enables us to explore more remote islands and allows us to engage in unique animal behaviors and interactions. The dates for our trip will not put us in the region for prime whale shark season, however, there are plenty of shark opportunities with hammerheads, Galapagos sharks, and white tips as well as seals, Mola Mola, and many other big animals.

Blue Green Expeditions is adding an optional land tour package at the end of the trip (see below). Participants will stay on board the m/v Aqua while visiting the unique and fascinating wildlife of the Galapagos archipelago.

As an added value, Blue Green Expeditions is taking care of many of the logistics of this trip by incorporating the domestic flights, the hotel in Guayaquil on December 5th and all the transfers to and from the airport, hotel and the boat on the coast.

Let us make your experience in the Galapagos a smooth and hassle free journey that you will never forget!

This Trip Includes:
